Initial Thoughts
While CBD flower is still a new industry in the grand scheme of the CBD world, Tweedle Farms is a true original and has become one of the most searched brands in the space. The company hails from Northwest Oregon, which is a great starting point with strong cannabis roots. They are family-owned, which is also a good sign of the care going into their flower. They also claim to have some of the most premiere, terpene-rich, high CBD hemp. In fact, they go so far as to label their hemp as farm-to-table. Our expectations started high for all of these reasons!
The Five Senses (7.0 out of 10)
We’re giving Tweedle a little bit of credit here, as CBG flower goes through a slightly different process to elevate the CBG levels in the plant than plain old CBD flower would. Because of that difference, we can’t fault them too much on smell. That said, the product just kind of smells like hay which is disappointing. Yes, it is mild, but still hay. The good news is that the mild smell translated into a mild smoke, too. We thought this might be a harsh flower based on the smell and moisture content, but we were pleasantly surprised. When smoked, it had a slight diesel and clove taste going for it. Nice! Vaping the White CBG produced a super mellow smoke with what we would consider to be a standard hemp aroma.
Curb Appeal (6.5 out of 10)
You need to look at this flower from two points of view to get the full picture. From a foot or two away, this flower looks rough and every bit an outdoor strain. The nuggets seem airy – missing the denseness we love from strains like Berkshire’s Elektra. The trim job is the widest we’ve seen so far, making it look a little sloppy (but natural for sure). To Tweedle’s credit, they do disclaim this on the website and are not doctoring their pictures. But, upon a closer inspection, this flower is sort of interesting. The most unique characteristic of CBG flower is that it is so covered in beige-white crystals to where it almost looks powered. This flower was no exception and was completely coated! The trichomes were amber and stretched out for days – almost like strands of hair. We were able to look past our initial impressions to appreciate this flower, but still had to keep the score modest because this CBG is pretty dry, to be honest.
Potency (8.0 out of 10)
With CBD being nearly absent from this flower, it is hard to do an apples-to-apples potency comparison between CBD and CBG flower other than on terpene content. Typically, we would comment on the CBD percentage, THC percentage and not even call out the CBG. But, in this case, we had to rely on the 12.21% CBG starting point and see how the effect translated. (more on that in a second) What we thought was great about Tweedle’s CBG flower is that you get a trifecta of things you typically don’t find in most CBD flower strains: a boatload of CBG, Guaiol and Phytol. Guaiol and Phytol are terpenes that typically don’t register on most CBD flower lab tests, but Tweedle’s CBG flower has both of them in spades. If you’re tired of the standard myrcene, beta caryophyllene and pinene combo, we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with some new genetics.
Effect (8.5 out of 10)
We were really happy with the effects of this CBG flower. While Tweedle Farms does not explicitly label this as an indica-leaning strain, that’s the impression we came away with. This is a great evening flower, in our view, though you may have a different experience. For our reviewer, everything started with a chill in his upper body – instantly easing some muscle tension in the neck and shoulders. He noted his eyes drooping a little and this flower immediately triggered a back crack. He couldn’t quite pinpoint the head effect, but said it was best described as kind of a floating, hazy contentment. While we say “hazy,” he did not that he still felt quite lucid. The most noticeable and lasting attribute, overall, was the muscle relaxation. From that standpoint, you could have easily convinced us that we had just taken a low dose muscle relaxer. Pretty great effect!
Price (8.5 out of 10)
Tweedle Farms sells their outdoor White CBG for $30 an eighth, $45 for a quarter ounce, $70 for a half-ounce, and $100 per ounce. That’s a little bit on the expensive end of eighth pricing, but at the other volume breakpoints, these prices are right in line with numerous other flower vendors that we would consider to be middle of the road. Revel Valley still crushes everyone on price vs. quality, but we think Tweedle is doing a nice job here on pricing. At $30, you’re getting CBG at 7 cents ($.07) per milligram. When you bump all the way up to one ounce, you’re snagging it for 2.9 cents ($.029). That’s over 50% savings when you buy in bulk! Not too shabby for a really unique flower with excellent effects.
