Sweet Cake Hemp Flower, Indica, 18.6% CBD, Indoor Grown
Five Senses: 8.0
Curb Appeal: 10.0
We thought Secret Nature's website sent all the right signals before we purchased our first product from them and we were not disappointed during our Frosted Kush review. Secret Nature has incredibly detailed photography, modern packaging, an easy-to-use website, in-depth product descriptions, is all organic and maintains stellar reviews. And, everything you might want to know about the product you're about to ingest appears prominently on the product's Certificate of Analysis. The team over at Secret Nature charges a premium price for sure. But, when the Frosted Kush strain lived up to expectations, we were more than happy to pay up to get our hands on the Sweet Cake strain.
The Five Senses (8.5 out of 10)
When we popped the top off of our tin of this strain, we were expecting the smell of the Sweet Cake to jump through the room like Secret Nature's Frosted Kush. That didn't happen, which can either be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at it. This CBD flower is more muted, but plenty pleasant on the nose. The Sweet Cake strain has a sweet and earthy smell about it. Think of this strain as the humble brother of Frosted Kush - directionally similar effects in a more conspicuous package. When we lit up the preroll, the smoke maintained the sweetness we smelled out of the gates. Very tasty! Easy, mellow and toasty smoke throughout. No harshness to be found, which is a great quality.
Curb Appeal (10 out of 10)
Once again, the pictures online looked top shelf and our nuggets didn't disappoint. Orange trichomes popping out everywhere between contrasting dark and bright green flower. Quality size and frosty across the board. Just like Frosted Kush, you could put this on a dispensary shelf and no one would know that they were getting a product with less than .3% THC. The cure on the nuggets was spot on and, if we weren't in such a hurry to give it a try, we love the fact that we could have held onto this strain for some time in it's hermetically sealed can. What more do you need? Secret Nature keep growing products to benchmark against.
Potency (7.5 out of 10)
Sweet Cake clocks in at 18.6% CBD content and 21.1% total cannabinoids, which puts this strain on the middle-upper end of the spectrum of CBD potency. Don't judge hemp flower on CBD alone, though, as those terpenes are going to play a role in the effect. When it comes to THC, Sweet Cake comes in at .06%. That's not pushing anywhere near the legal limit of .3%. Depending on what you're looking for, that might be viewed as a good thing or a bad thing. We will refrain from making that call for you. Once again, Secret Nature delivers a punch on terpene content, though. With over 1% myrcene content and .34% beta caryophyllene, we figured this strain was going to send us exactly where we wanted to be - sinking into the couch for a mellow evening.
Effect (9.5 out of 10)
I wasn't sure how long it would take to find another CBD flower to give Frosted Kush a run for it's money when it came to effect. Apparently, not very long. Sweet Cake stepped up to the plate and knocked it out of the park. In some ways, we liked it better. In others, Frosted Kush still reigns supreme. What did we like? Well, this one is right up there in terms of overall numbing and relaxation. We would say it's more evenly distributed between the head and body. The most interesting part was that our reviewers couldn't stop smiling as the world slowed down for few minutes. Sweet Cake delivered something in terms of euphoria that Frosted Kush didn't and we - literally - could not have been happier. Beyond that, this strain is definitely a back cracker and your head will likely feel a little heavy and sedated. Great strain overall. Great strain to wind down before bed. We woke up feeling amazing in the morning - peaceful and relaxed.
Price (6.5 out of 10)
As we highlighted in our Frosted Kush review, Secret Nature's flower will run $40 for an 1/8 oz, $75 for a 1/4 oz, $145 for 1/2 and $250 for an ounce. This is premium pricing and some might say ultra premium pricing. Again, putting that in perspective, we can't help but compare prices to the CBD oil world. When you buy an 1/8th at $40, you're getting CBD at $.059 (5.9 cents) per milligram. Not bad at all in the CBD oil world, in fact, that would be on the low end of price-per-milligram in CBD oil terms. The more you buy, the more you save, too. Buying an ounce will drop the per-milligram price to 4.5 cents. We know, most people are comparing to other flower companies though. If that's a concern, yes, you can get 1/8s for $10-$20 cheaper elsewhere. As we expand our flower reviews, we'll see if those brands stack up on the quality front. In the meantime, Secret Nature is known to run 20% off sales often. Watch for one to pop up and stock up on this awesome hemp flower.
