Initial Thoughts

We like to think of ourselves as talent scouts here at CBDtop10. We don’t grow anything, or sell anything directly. But, there is something rewarding about sifting through the CBD industry to find amazing products, no matter how big or small the company is. That’s kind of how we view Boston Hempire, the topic of today’s review. They scour the nation to find the best tasting, best quality CBD flower being grown in the USA. They don’t own the farms, but they’ve one hell of a farm team. (bad pun intended) It’s sort of like having a quality assurance team on your side. Boston Hempire isn’t forced to sell anything – they get to pick and choose from the best. It means that something is always in stock and you know it’s going to be quality. For those reasons, we were excited to try their Oregon-sourced Hempress strain.

The Five Senses (8.5 out of 10)

Popping open our sleek black pouch of Hempress, the team was greeted with a medium-loud scent of earthy, pine-y musk. This strain smells just like the real deal and pleasant for sure. We noted that the cure was perfect. Seriously, perfect. Sometimes hemp flower can be dry and brittle, but this Hempress flower was just slightly spongy and enough to tell by touch that we had some sticky flower on our hands. That excellent cure translated perfectly in a mellow vapor. The Hempress strain reminds us a bit of Revel Valley P10 when vaped – a little toastier than most and just a hint of sweetness. We always pop a small bit in our hand pipe to see what that is like. Again, a mellow experience. When smoked, this flower is a tasty mix of diesel, clove and sweet. Well done, Boston Hempire!

Curb Appeal (9.0 out of 10)

Our eighth of Hempress came in a sleek black pouch with a five-fan-leaf viewing window and is one of the more stylish packaging situations we’ve come across. The packaging is well worth it, as the flower inside did not disappoint. Hempress is absolutely glistening in crystals, for starters. That is evident straight away and probably the most noteworthy aspect. That said, we couldn’t also help but notice that we received big, dense nuggets. That density translated into an extended smoke session. Our vaporizer produced large clouds well into our session. The flower is an even mix of dark green flower and amber trichomes all over. Awesome!

Potency (7.5 out of 10)

Clocking in at 15.74% CBD content, this CBD flower is right in the middle of the spectrum in terms of CBD potency. Per usual, we care more about the terpenes than the absolute CBD percentage. On the THC front, Hempress registers right at .05% delta 9 THC. That is right in the same range as Frosted Kush from Secret Nature, and well under the .3% legal limit, which tells you that not all great flowers need to push it on THC content. Unfortunately, Boston Hempire doesn’t publish the terpene content of the Hempress strain, which we would strongly encourage. We feel that labeled potency is hard to judge when it is only CBD and THC listed, as we don’t have the complete picture. Solid start, but we would love to know more.

Effect (8.0 out of 10)

We weren’t 100% sure what we were going to get on the terpene front, so we were curious to feel the effects of Hempress. Everything started, for us, as a light chill focused around the shoulders and torso. This chill grew over time, as the onset definitely compounded. Our reviewer’s muscles became semi-relaxed, with the bulk of the sensation focused on the same area as the chilling effect. Like any good indica leaning strain, this prompted a stretch and a light back crack. This flower won’t put you to bed, but it is sedating and what we would consider an eye-drooping evening strain. Our team noted that they stayed fairly clear headed throughout their sessions and afterwards with only the slightest head fog. As one of our reviewer’s head hit the pillow for the night, he commented that it felt like he had the sensation of a mild ice pack at the base of his neck. A solid indica-leaning hybrid!

Price (9.0 out of 10)

Boston Hempire’s Hempress will run you $20 for an 1/8 oz, $60 for 1/2 and $100 for an ounce. A great price mix! With this pricing, we feel that the team is definitely encouraging aggressive pricing at the smaller quantities to get people to try different flower and we applaud that. We would have anticipated the price to drop a little more as quantity increased, but this is still right on par with Berkshire Elektra, at a slightly more affordable entry point. At $20 for an eighth, you are getting CBD at 3.6 cents per milligram. That’s a steal! As you increase up to an ounce, you’re getting CBD at 2.2 cents per milligram. As we noted, not an insane drop for volume, but when you start at 3.6 cents, it’s hard to argue with. All around, we were super impressed with Boston Hempire’s Hempress strain. Right quality, right price. You can’t go wrong making this strain part of your routine.
