Initial Thoughts

Big Sky Botanicals was new to us when we first decided to review a CBD product from them. That’s understandable, since the company was just started in 2018. OK, so why pick Big Sky out of the CBD crowd?

We looked at what kind of organization they strive to be, and what kinds of products they offer. The company mission is to “provide reliable, consistent, effective products and to support our valued clients that use them. We do this by focusing on transparency, providing educational resources, pricing accessibility programs, and uncompromising customer support.”

That sounds similar to the mission statements that most CBD brands publish. So what is there that prompted us to do this Big Sky Botanicals CBD review? Well, start with the experience of the
founders, piling up half a century in the nutrition industry. Then look at the organically grown hemp and the quality measures taken during processing.

We saw that the Big Sky tinctures are made without artificial flavoring or non-essential ingredients. The innovative CBD Hydro tincture is water-soluble and nanoemulsified for better bioavailability.

The sum total of these features prompted us to take on this Big Sky Botanicals CBD review and see where it goes. Read on!

Taste (8.5 out of 10)

This oil from Big Sky uses actual orange oil for its flavor – no artificial flavors here. The result is a subtle orange taste that is pleasant without being overbearing, similar to the orange flavored oil from Joy Organics. We reviewed the broad spectrum oil (no THC), so the grassy taste often found in oils is minimal. The result is a nice, pleasing taste that lingers in the mouth. There was a bit of an aftertaste that hung around for a bit, but not one that our reviewers found unpleasant.

Delivery (8.0 out of 10)

Yes, it’s the usual eye dropper used by most CBD oils, so there’s nothing unusual about that. Big Sky takes the extra step of adding volume calibration marks on the dropper tube, which is a nice touch. With these marks, there is no guessing about your serving size, and you can easily adjust your dosage up or down as needed.

The oil itself is slightly thick, leaving a satisfying feeling in the mouth. Coupled with the pleasant taste described above, this oil has a nice delivery that makes your CBD regimen a pleasant experience.

Potency (8.0 out of 10)

We chose the 750 mg tincture for this Big Sky Botanicals CBD review. This puts it right in the middle of the most common strengths we usually see (500 to 1000 mg typically). As such, it delivers 25 mg of CBD in a full one ml dropper, which is a good level of CBD effectiveness for most CBD users.

As noted above, the dropper in this oil is marked with volume levels, so it is easy to accurately calculate your intake for the dosage you feel you need. Feeling good today? Take less than a full dropper. Tough, stressful day? Take another half dropper, or even a full second dropper to give you a solid 50 mg of CBD when you need it. For our thoughts on dosage, check out our infographic How to Use CBD Oil.

Note – Big Sky offers this broad spectrum oil in 250 mg and 1500 mg also.

Effect (8.0 out of 10)

Our reviewers agreed that this Big Sky tincture delivers on the CBD promise. It isn’t the strongest tincture out there, but then again it falls into the sweet zone that the majority of CBD users are looking for – calmness, physical well-being, and reduced stress or tension.

We found the effect to be consistent with our expectations, and would expect that most CBD users would consider this tincture just right for a daily CBD regimen.

Price (8.0 out of 10)cbd oil cost

The cost of this 30 ml bottle is $59.95 at the time that this review is written. With a CBD content of 750 mg, this results in a cost of 8 cents per milligram of CBD. That’s not a bad price for a quality CBD product. We’ve seen lower prices, but we also see prices up to 15 cents per mg, so this nice oil is in the low to middle part of the price spectrum.

Should you decide to buy the lower 250 mg concentration, you would pay about 12 cents per mg. The 1500 mg bottle is the best value at 7 cents per mg.

Don’t forget that you can save through the programs that Big Sky offers, including the  Charter Buyer Club, Referral Program, and a subscription program.

Exploring the Big Sky

The Big Sky Botanicals website looks a bit spare at first glance, but poke around a little and you’ll find a world of information. The blog is extensive and varied. In addition, the “Why Big Sky” tab has helpful articles on the company, product creation and quality, as well as information on the water=soluble technology.

The “Learn” tab offers site advice to CBD beginners and some thoughts on how to best put Big Sky products to use.

Most important, each product page has a prominent button to call up the lab test results for that product. The results sheets are thorough and extensive, showing the reader what cannabinoids and terpenes are present, as well as any pesticides, solvents, or toxins.

One of our most important requirements that we look for before we will review any CBD product is independent laboratory testing. We appreciate the extensive information provided in the Big Sky lab results. Thorough and independent testing such as this is one of the first things you should look for when considering a CBD purchase.
